02 Oct Hearty Autumn Food – Italian Style!
While we might be sad that the long sunny days of summer are on their way out, we now have the joy of welcoming the beautiful season of autumn. We’re looking forward to crisp mornings, cosy evenings and, of course, some warming comfort food!
There’s an amazing array of seasonal produce available during the autumnal months and we love featuring them on our menu. Particularly look out for seasonal vegetables in our specials, which change regularly.
Our main menu features many dishes which will satisfy your need for homely and hearty food as the nights draw in. Here’s our recommended selections:
Noci e Mele – Walnuts, apple slices, celery, Parmesan, port and cream sauce.
What’s not to like?! With seasonal apples, walnuts and celery, and a silky port and cream sauce, there’s possibly no better way to start your meal when temperatures dip.
Fettuccine Carciofi e Funghi alla Forestiere – Wild mushrooms, grilled artichokes, olives, garlic, olive oil and a touch of Italian Black Truffle sauce.
Not everyone gets the opportunity to regularly eat such delicacies as wild mushrooms, artichokes and black truffle sauce so treat yourself to this decadent and delicious pasta dish. You won’t regret it!
Pizza Emilia Romagna – Tomato, mozzarella, ham, grilled artichokes, chorizo, pepperoni, mushrooms and chillies.
Looking for a pizza that takes the best of the season and gives your taste buds a kick up the whatsit? The Pizza Emilia Romagna is both tasty and spicy, with the added comfort of the oozing mozzarella.
Salmone Imperiale – Pan fried fillet of salmon in brandy, prawns, leeks and topped with creamy sauce, served with turmeric rice.
Why is it that creamy sauces are so appealing when the weather gets colder? Combine it with leeks, brandy and prawns, as well as the star of the show, the salmon, and you’ve got a top notch delicate but comforting main course.
Fusilli alla Toscana – Chicken, pancetta, mushrooms, leeks, butter, white wine and cream sauce.
Alternatively, if fish isn’t your thing, and you’d rather focus on pasta, Fusilli alla Toscana ticks all the same boxes. Yummy and easy to eat. Relax and savour every mouthful.
Cannelloni Ricotta e Spinaci – Tube pasta filled with spinach and ricotta cheese topped with tomato, bechamel and cheese sauce.
In the same way creamy sauces are comforting so too are baked dishes, and we’ve a fine selection on our menu. We’ve picked this one as you get homely cheese sauce and, again, it’s all about the ease of eating. Pick up your fork, tuck your napkin in and you’re off.
Did you know that fish is seasonal? As it happens, October is sea bass season so you’ll know that you’re eating the best of the year’s catch if you choose our Filetti di Spigola al Basilico (Pan fried fillets of sea bass with cherry tomatoes, onions, olives, chillies, garlic, basil, olive oil and white wine served with turmeric rice). It’s also got some warming chillies to tickle those taste buds.
Talking of chillies… we love them year round but they really come into their own now when they can provide a sense of much needed extra warmth. Looking for a chilli dish to warm your cockles?
Start with either Arancini Siciliani Fritti (rice balls deep fried in bread crumbs, filled with mozzarella, chillies, mushrooms and served with tomato chutney) or Polpettine al Sugo (baked beef and pork meatballs in tomato, garlic, crushed chillies, red pesto, basil, a dash of cream and served with crostini).
Follow that with a mega tasty Pizza Mexicana (Thin pizza base with chilli pesto rub, garlic, sweetcorn, topped with spicy nachos, tomato salsa, jalapenos, cheese and soured cream).
Does it get any better?! This is why we love autumn!
